Who is Peter Brandt?
I'm wary of calling myself an artist, but I do enjoy drawing. In 2013 I quit my day job - if you can call starting at 3am a "day" job - and started drawing full time. My style has been refined over many hours and many canvasses using an unusual combination of chalk pastel and cotton fabric ("calico" in Australia and UK).
The name Avalon Prand was coined to be a unique name for signing up for tumblr. Avalon in Sydney is where I grew up. Prand is my Estonian grandfather’s surname, that he later germanicised into Brandt.
I have always enjoyed drawing, whether in pencil, ink or pastel. For a while I focussed on making bold black and white ink studies and lino cuts. That was way back when I lived in Enmore in Sydney's inner west.
Now I live with wife and kids in the Blue Mountains. I'm a member of the Blue Mountains Artists Network and regularly participate in their exhibitions.
My favourite artists include Alfonse Mucha and Modigliani.
I like listening to Ryuichi Sakamoto, Scritti Politti, Camille, They Might Be Giants and many others. Bach is great too.
My wife Veronica does the webpage side of things.
